Watch Recording We create nonprofits, and nonprofit technology, to right injustices, empower communities and inspire social change. But do we reflect the people we serve? Sexism and racism continue to be played out in tech communities, while nonprofits, though better than other industries remain overwhelmingly white, male and college-educated. An honest assessment of where we're falling short and strategies for moving forward will help us build welcoming, sustainable communities for social change. This session is for nonprofit staff who are committed to social justice inside of our organizations as well as in the wider world.
Attendees will walk away with: 1) Strategies for building more inclusive, accountable and effective organizations -- because nonprofits committed to diversity and empowerment will be better at what they do; 2) How in particular to avoid nonprofit tech hardening privilege and perpetuating discrimination in your organization; 3) Ways to be an effective ally to those who are marginalized in your organization; 4) Where to look for allies outside of your organization if you can't find any within.
