The Craft: IT Consulting Best Practices

Consulting, at its best, can be transformative. But no matter how much technical expertise you have, sometimes a project can fall flat. What makes the difference? In this session, panelists representing independent consulting, a nonprofit management support organization, and an agency will share their best advice on the craft of IT consulting. Topics include techniques for scoping and proposal writing, negotiating a successful relationship with your client, troubleshooting problems like scope creep and disengagement, and ensuring your recommendations get implemented. Unlike other intro to consulting workshops, this is not about running your business, but rather about soft skills that make you more effective and improve the quality of your work. The intended audience is external consultants, but IT directors may also find this valuable in their role as an internal consultant.
