The long version:

Rachel Rye Butler is an organizer standing on the shoulders of giants to fight for a world where communities come before corporate greed, energy is clean, and there really is justice for all.

With a background in organizing around climate, democracy, and anti-oppression issues, Rachel specializes in building coalitions, working with partners, and supporting local activists. She currently works as a campaigner with the Sierra Club's Beyond Oil campaign, pushing major corporations to stop using tar sands, the dirtiest source of oil on the planet, in their vehicle fleets. Previously, her work at Sierra Club focused on supporting communities working for equitable solutions to our oil-based transportation system, including walking, biking, public transit, and complete streets. She also served as the Partner Coordinator for the Forward on Climate rally, which brought 40,000+ people to Washington DC in the largest environmental rally in US history to demand climate action in February 2013.

Before joining the Sierra Club in 2010, Rachel worked on and led campaigns to win a major victory on a renewable energy standard in her home state of Wisconsin in 2005, to register and mobilize record youth voter turnout in Madison, WI in 2006 and 2008, and to bring US youth to the international climate negotiations in Copenhagen in 2009 to speak for climate action. Rachel formerly served as the co-Chair for the Energy Action Coalition Steering Committee, a coalition of US youth-led organizations working for a clean and just energy future.

She currently lives in Oakland, CA, where she is involved in queer and local climate organizing.
