Stephanie Downs

Founder & Chief Volunteer
Washington, District of Columbia
Stephanie Downs is an entrepreneur offering a broad range of strategic and tactical experience, including extensive work in marketing and non-profit development. In 1999, she founded MarKomm Consulting as a full service marketing consulting firm, which quickly evolved into a focus on Internet marketing. To complement her consulting business, in 2000 she founded ConferZone, an e-conferencing portal that provided comprehensive industry analysis, market data, and guidance to organizations.

In 2007, Downs put her business knowledge to “good” use. The success of her marketing agency enabled her to step away from running the day to day business, and she joined PETA’s Corporate Affairs team bridging the gap between animal rights and the business community. Although no longer on staff, she continues to work as a consultant on crucial negotiations.

In 2009, Downs co-founded the FiXiT Foundation – a non-profit focused on using marketing and research to drive demand for spay/neuter clinics. The foundation is currently conducting a project on the island of St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands and runs a program matching families in need with donors to pay for their spay/neuter surgeries (www.GetYourFix.org).

Finally in 2012, Downs founded Voolla.org, an online marketplace providing a revolutionary way to volunteer. The site enables volunteers to donate their skills to be hired by others with the proceeds going to the charity of their choice.

Downs brings over a decade of volunteering to her work. She was a board member at the TMAC shelter in Denver and chaired their annual fundraiser. She participated in spay/neuter clinics with Animal Planet and is Certified Member of the Red Star Rescue Team for the American Humane Association. She has also traveled to over 26 countries and has volunteered in Greece, Brazil, Costa Rica, Malaysia, South Africa, India, and Tobago.
